Cocoa schools
Partnership: IBIS + TOMS
Problem tackled: Poor educational quality, due to child labour in rural areas, is one of the biggest deterrents to children being enrolled in school
Solution: In 2006 a partnership collaboration was initiated between the Danish NGO IBIS and the Danish chocolate manufacturer TOMS in Ghana with support from Danida. Through education and engagement of the civil society the TOMS/IBIS project has improved the quality of schooling and decreased hazardous child labour in the cocoa districts in Ghana from where TOMS source cocoa.
