How do we support strategic partnerships between businesses and NGO's?

Partnership Conference 2012 Challenge

How can we support more strategic business and NGO partnerships to achieve social, environmental and economic goals?

This challenge is a part of the NGO+Business Partnership Conference 2012 taking place at Copenhagen Business School on June 10-12

The ideas created in this challenge, will be made available through an online publication for free download.

From philanthropy to strategic partnerships
The majority of NGO-business partnerships fall within philanthropy, where companies are offering financial support to an NGO. Strategic partnerships, where companies and NGOs are working towards shared goals, are lacking. The added value created from strategic partnerships is the greatest for both partners, still only few of these more advanced partnerships exist.

Lack of awareness about the opportunities that partnerships entail, as well as watertight shutters between the two sectors, have been identified as important barriers.

How do we overcome the barriers? We need fresh thinking, that can encourage more partnerships. You’re encouraged to submit creative ideas within the four themes described in this challenge.

Background
Read more about the barriers and success factors in the working paper
"Barriers and Success Factors in the Establishment and Continuous Development of NGO-Business Partnerships in Denmark" or visit the Partnership Initiative.

Winners

Hi Thomas. I wonder if it's recommended to share ideas that are already implemented on the ground. Our project, Company-Community Partnerships for Health Worldwide (CCPHW) has a wide range of activities that bring together companies, NGOs, academic institutes, and local governments to network and learn from each other how to partner as they build the trust, skills, and relationships needed for successful partnerships. I find every aspect of our work speaks to each theme of the challenge. We'd like to share our approach and welcome feedback. Look forward to hearing from you.

It's not a problem that the ideas already exist. We're on the lookout for new ideas, that can lead to more strategic partnerships. Im sure your ideas will be valuable, and will spark more ideas from others.
